Firstly, on behalf of all at Land Of Holistic Pets, I would like to thank you for your continued support. We are entering very troubled and uncertain times but no doubt the sun will still rise in the morning.
The devaluation of Sterling after the Brexit vote has had serious implications for everyone. As most raw materials are traded in either US dollars or Euros, it has resulted in dramatic increases in costs. Also, the devaluation has also affected UK sourced materials as suppliers seek to take advantage of increased demand from European countries which has resulted in increased UK supplier prices.
Land Of Holistic Pets has absorbed these increases to date in the hope that the markets would stabilise. Unfortunately the Sterling has remained at its low valuation compared to the US Dollar and the Euro. As a consequence, we can no longer continue to absorb these costs and unfortunately we have been forced into a price increase.
The price increase will take effect Monday 27th Feb 2017
Auld Lang Syne has been a popular song around the world particularly in the English speaking communities. I have heard the song sung in Japanese and Russian but when I ask people who wrote the song that is another matter. Robert Burns, Scotland national poet is credited with writing it in 1788 but it was another song that took my interest in regards to Land Of Holistic Pets. The poem was called The Twa Dugs – translated from Scot’s dialect to The Two Dogs. Continue reading →
With regards to dogs there are still many questions that don’t have a definitive answers – one of which is why do dogs eat grass? Grass is all around us and while we understand why horses and cows graze on grass, dogs are a different matter.
Some owners see dogs as carnivores and generally averse to vegetables, why is it that they sometimes seem to feel compelled to graze on a patch of the green stuff? So it is only natural that, having seen dogs eating grass from time to time, that we ask the question why do they do it?
Land Of Holistic Pet took the opportunity at the recent PATS trade show to launch our revolutionary new grain free mixer for dogs. In doing so, we won the prestigious award of best product in show in the category of dog food and treats.
As one of the judges pointed out – “there is nothing like it in the dog food market and the price is spot of for dog owners’
The recipe was developed by George Burns and was selected from more than 270 new dog and cat food entries. The Robbie’s Grain Free mixer has been specially developed to be hypo-allergenic, wheat and gluten free and exclusive of any additives.
The Grain free mixer uses grade one potatoes flakes as the main ingredient and combines it with vegetables and herbs. Owners must add in their own protein and oil into the mix to create a dog meal almost like home cooking or as one owner commented – dinners for dogs.
Using Robbie’s Grain free mixer for dogs along with a high quality protein source then the idea of a home cooked dog diner becomes a very realistic proposition.
Watch out for Land Of Holistic Pets New products being launched at PATS Sandown 2015. The Company is rapidly becoming the dehydrated dog food specialist in the UK,
Unlike most of the dog food brands in the UK , Robbie’s is blended and packaged in our plant in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire
Skin testing of dogs will nearly always come back with results about dust mites, grass pollen, house dust and so on. Everybody and every living thing is allergic to parasites and dust. The issue is how our bodies handle it. How strong is the dogs immune system to brush aside parasites and dust problems. Continue reading →
Dog urinary incontinence is mostly seen in spayed bitches (and neutered dogs).

You would think it common sense to give our beloved pets ‘natural dog food’ all the time. It is nothing more than a natural instinct.
Here at Land of Holistic Pets we consider ourselves a ‘natural dog food company’, through and through.
Ever since we started making our own ‘natural dog food brands’ – Robbie’s and Luath’s – we’ve concentrated on making them natural and healthy. As a consequence we strive to maintain the highest standards and seek to always improve.
Salmonella, in what is claimed to be natural dog food, has resulted in 14 people in nine states taking ill in the USA. The natural dog food from a plant in South Carolina is not averse to controversy having had a number of their products recalled in the past.
At least five people were hospitalized because of the dog food, which was made by Diamond Pet Foods at its plant in Gaston, S.C., the Federal Centres for Disease Control and Prevention said. “People who became ill, the thing that was common among them was that they had fed their pets Diamond Pet Foods,” said CDC spokeswoman Lola Russell. Some 40 years ago our family pet dog was fed on the leftovers from the kitchen table and scraps from the butchers which included tripe and sheep heads, we also used the unsold wholemeal bread from the local bakers, garden vegetables that my family used to grow and the odd piece of fish, we even fed rabbits and hares when she was lucky enough to catch them.
I remember once going to the vet but it was because the local GP could not extract the fishing hook from the dog’s ear – the fear of being bitten I think more than anything else.
Society has changed dramatically from those days.
Supermarkets now dominate the food supply chain and food processing is more the norm than natural foods. Continue reading →
